About Our Instructor

Steven is more than just an instructor and that matters.

So many instructors have not sold a home in several years. Not that is make them unqualified but many times it means their information is not applicable to the deals that you will encounter the day you start representing your first client.

Picking the person who becomes your instructor is as important as the format. What Steven teaches, he knows how to explain in layman's terms because he has been through it himself.

You should know who, before you know what.

Nearly every complaint about a course is summed up in the presenter, not the presentation. If you loved a course in school, it's very likely that you loved the teacher teaching it. That is why "who" matters over "what".

Steven's Background

Who teaches you, matters!

01

NAR Certified Instructor

A military veteran, Steven is an instructor for the National Association of REALTORS®. He teaches Seller Representative Specialist, Accredited Buyer's Representative, Seniors Real Estate Specialist, Real Estate Negotiation Expert, Military Relocation Professional, Pricing Strategy Advisor and several other designation and certification courses that advance a real estate agent's career.

02

Active Brokerage Owner

Steven is the Owner and Active Supervising Broker for Dream Home Realty. He is very involved with training and development. He supervises over 100 agents across three states and is involved in personal transactions of his own. This matters in the classroom. Many instructors today, have not done a deal in two decades and aren't personally acquainted with the changes that agents have to face today. Steven brings real life scenarios from the field that he experienced himself or he walked an agent he supervises through.

03

LREC & ARELLO Certified

Steven is a member of ARELLO, the Association of Real Estate License Law Officials, and holds the Certified Distance Education Instructor designation. Steven has taught real estate since 2015 and has helped thousands across the state and nation become licensed real estate agents and successful REALTORS®. His teaching style is practical and clutter-free. His love for real estate is contagious.

04

Family

Steven and his wife Jenèe both work in the industry together. They have five children and one grandchild. They are real people, living in Louisiana practicing and teaching the business that has been such a large part of who they are today. When you are choosing who to be your instructor, it is important to select one who walks the path that you are learning to navigate.

INSTRUCTOR FAQ

Questions students ask about their instructor.

Short answers about the person who will actually be teaching your class. Course details live on each course page.

Who teaches the courses at Excel School of Real Estate?

Steven J. Desormeaux is the senior Instructor at Excel. He is the Instructor and Director of the school and a licensed Louisiana broker who still works transactions of his own.

Is Steven still an active broker, or only an instructor?

Both. He is the owner and active supervising broker of Dream Home Realty, where he supervises over 100 agents across three states, and he handles his own transactions.

What designations and certifications does he hold?

CDEI, CRS, ABR, GRI, SRES, RENE, MRP, SFR, PSA and SRS. He is also a member of ARELLO, the Association of Real Estate License Law Officials.

Is Steven a veteran?

Yes. Steven served in the military before he began selling real estate, and he holds and teaches NAR's Military Relocation Professional certification, which trains agents to work with active-duty service members, veterans and their families.

Is he certified to teach NAR designation courses?

Yes. He is an instructor for the National Association of REALTORS® and teaches SRS, ABR, SRES, RENE and PSA, along with several other designation and certification courses.

Does Steven teach the live classes himself, or is it recorded?

He teaches the live sessions in person. Questions get answered in the room, from someone who ran into the same situation in a real Louisiana transaction.

Why does it matter who teaches the course?

Because most complaints about a course are about the presenter, not the presentation. An instructor who has not closed a deal in years cannot speak to what you will face.

Where is Steven based?

Lafayette, Louisiana, where the school's office is on Rue Beauregard. He teaches students throughout the state, online and in person.

Can I reach him with a question before I enroll?

Yes. Call (337) 522-3334 or email [email protected] and you will reach the school directly.
